14:28:12 <charlesay> hi, I just installed nikola and began testing things. I wanted to import a site via its rss feed with the import feed plugin.
14:28:40 <charlesay> however, after installing the plugin nikola commands stopped working
14:30:30 <charlesay> ValueError: Missing *name* of the plugin in extracted infos."
14:31:08 <charlesay> ... is part of the traceback that appears
14:38:01 <charlesay> what do i need to do to make it work?
14:59:46 <ralsina> charlesay: looks like the plugin is a bit broken
14:59:52 <ralsina> charlesay: give me 2' to check it out
15:36:53 <ChrisWarrick> charlesay: pastebin the full traceback and make sure you’re running an up-to-date version of Nikola
15:42:14 <ChrisWarrick> I can’t reproduce; there is one bug with it not being displayed in `nikola help` but that’s something else
15:49:22 <charlesay> ChrisWarrick: here is the traceback https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8881787
15:50:32 <charlesay> i am using nikola 7.7.9-1
15:50:38 <charlesay> (on arch)
15:50:51 <ChrisWarrick> I was about to suggest outdated packages, but I’m actually the maintainer of that.
15:51:07 <ChrisWarrick> $ locale
15:51:16 <ChrisWarrick> $ cat plugins/import_feed/*.plugin
15:53:49 <ChrisWarrick> charlesay: ↑ — seeing that would be nice
15:57:59 <charlesay> ok, give me a moment
16:00:45 <ChrisWarrick> charlesay: you can also start by removing the Author’s name (or at least removing our pesky Ś and ń letters) from the .plugin file, that might just do it (at which point you should fix your system’s locale)
16:01:45 -GitHub[plugins]:#nikola- [plugins] Kwpolska pushed 1 new commit to master: https://git.io/vKTAk
16:01:46 -GitHub[plugins]:#nikola- plugins/master 820fcdd Chris Warrick: Add plugincategory to all Command plugins...
16:06:32 <charlesay> i added the locale output to that paste
16:06:55 <charlesay> i am having some issues getting the other file
16:09:42 <ChrisWarrick> can’t see it
16:10:02 -travis-ci:#nikola- [PLUGINS] getnikola/plugins#905 (master - 820fcdd : Chris Warrick): The build passed.

16:10:03 -travis-ci:#nikola- [PLUGINS] Build details: https://travis-ci.org/getnikola/plugins/builds/142500380
16:10:09 <ChrisWarrick> Perhaps the plugin installed only partially and you’re missing import_feed.plugin which is important
16:10:12 <ChrisWarrick> try re-installing
16:10:50 <charlesay> i did that just now, actually, but i am still getting the same error as before
16:11:47 <charlesay> sorry, the url changed when it gave the impression it wouldn't https://pastebin.mozilla.org/8881789
16:12:10 <ChrisWarrick> right, your locale is fine
16:12:19 <ChrisWarrick> check if import_page.plugin exists
16:27:01 <charlesay> ChrisWarrick: how do i do that when nikola help doesn't work?
16:33:31 <KwBot> [nikola] Fotofreund opened issue #2388: Using special font for blog-title https://github.com/getnikola/nikola/issues/2388
16:51:51 <ralsina> charlesay: it should be inside plugins
16:51:59 <ralsina> charlesay: or some subfolder
18:08:57 <charlesay> i removed the ~/.nikola/plugins/import_feed/ folder, so the rest of nikola works
18:10:25 <charlesay> import_page.plugin doesn't seem to exist
18:18:07 <ChrisWarrick> charlesay: nikola plugin -i import_feed
18:22:41 <Vango> Hello everyone
18:23:10 <punchagan> Hello!
18:23:15 <Vango> I am trying out Nikola. Unfortunately it does not have the language I need as listed
18:23:40 <Vango> do you happen to know if I can add a language, Albanian in particular?
18:23:47 <Vango> Thanx in advance! :)
18:23:52 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: sure
18:24:13 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: https://www.transifex.com/ralsina/nikola/
18:25:16 <Vango> I see, so we need to make a contribution there in order to get the Albanian language, there is no round hack right?
18:25:34 <ralsina> Vango: well, there is, but it's more work :-)
18:26:07 <ralsina> Vango: easiest thing is, create a user, request the albanian team, translate (should take about half an hour?) then we push it to master, and it's ready to use
18:26:36 <Vango> I see
18:26:40 <Vango> Thank you very much! :)
18:26:42 <ChrisWarrick> half an hour? far too much
18:26:43 <ralsina> If you use the workaround, you will be the only one with access to the Albanian translation and that sucks
18:27:08 <Vango> I wouldn't want that
18:27:08 <ChrisWarrick> there’s, like, 100 words in total
18:27:26 <Vango> Can I not translate them myself so to contribute as well?
18:27:38 <ChrisWarrick> you will be doing the translation
18:27:39 <Vango> or is it because I don't have enough reps?
18:27:46 <ChrisWarrick> none of us speak Albanian
18:27:47 <Vango> OK, Good
18:28:29 <Vango> I asked because you wrote, "request the albanian team", since I have never used transifex before, I thought there might be someone to do it :p
18:29:39 <ralsina> Ah, no, you just have to say "hey, make me part of the (not yet existing) albanian team"
18:29:55 <ralsina> you will be the owner of that :-)
18:34:10 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: it has just been added
18:34:25 <Vango> Thank you! :)
18:34:34 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: refresh the page, get into the Albanian language translation, work on it and tell us when you’re done
18:44:15 <Vango> Done ;)
18:46:52 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: Thanks! Your translation will be imported to Nikola shortly and will be available in the next release. If you can’t want, you can take the messages file and put it in your own Nikola install.
18:47:57 <Vango> so on the next release I can build my site with English and Albanian as languages?
18:47:58 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: Wait, there are two bugs.
18:48:14 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: "English" and "Read in English" shouild be translated as "Albanian" and "Read in Albanian"
18:49:00 <Vango> I see
18:49:03 <Vango> fixing now
18:49:40 <Vango> done
18:52:09 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: you probably are not on Windows, are you?
18:52:45 <Vango> I am on Windows :(
18:52:51 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: Oh, great
18:53:26 <[Tritium]> (I am also on windows, if you need a windows guinea pig in the future)
18:53:34 <Vango> hehehe
18:53:50 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: open a Python interpreter and run: import locale; locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, "Albanian")
18:53:56 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: do you get any errors?
18:54:37 <Vango> no
18:55:21 <ChrisWarrick> good, so we have a working locale guess
18:56:44 <Vango> Unfortunately I need to leave now
18:56:47 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: wait
18:56:53 -GitHub[nikola]:#nikola- [nikola] Kwpolska pushed 1 new commit to master: https://git.io/vKk0u
18:56:54 -GitHub[nikola]:#nikola- nikola/master 05539fa Chris Warrick: Add Albanian translation by Vango Stavro...
18:56:56 <ChrisWarrick> Vango:18:57:04 <Vango> Nice :)
18:57:23 <ChrisWarrick> Vango: you can manually add messages_sq.py and the nikola.py changes to your existing install
18:57:39 <[Tritium]> I can translate Nikola into shit english!
18:57:39 <Vango> ah ok
18:57:42 <[Tritium]> >.>
18:57:46 <Vango> Thanx :)
18:58:20 <Vango> need to move now, thanx for everything guys! :)
19:00:38 <[Tritium]> actually, thinking about it, nikola doesnt even need a simplified english translation - none of the words or phrases used are very complicated
19:06:23 <ralsina> [Tritium]: that's why you should never use software written by native english speakers.
19:06:43 <ralsina> Nikola is almost in up-goer-five territory
19:08:02 <[Tritium]> Vocabulary wise, yes, but simplified english also has simplified grammar ... i'm not sure if nikola uses that... but the entire point is for L2 speakers
19:08:41 <charlesay> ChrisWarrick: before i try to 'nikola plugin -i import_feed' again, i still get a warning with everything i do saying
19:08:56 -travis-ci:#nikola- getnikola/nikola#7230 (master - 05539fa : Chris Warrick): The build passed.

19:08:59 <charlesay> "Could not guess locale for language en, using locale C"
19:09:12 <ChrisWarrick> so your locale is broken after all
19:09:36 <charlesay> how do i fix it?
19:09:38 <ChrisWarrick> uncomment the line with en_GB.UTF-8 UTF-8 in /etc/locale.gen and run sudo locale-gen
19:11:43 <charlesay> hm, that line was uncommented, i left it like it was and ran locale-gen
19:12:01 <charlesay> nikola is still complaining
19:25:54 <ChrisWarrick> charlesay: hmm, what about en_US.UTF-8?
19:40:20 <charlesay> one other question: how difficult is it to switch comment systems after creating a site?
19:48:57 <punchagan> charlesay: Depends on whether you want to keep the old comments. Moving comments from one system to another, may or may not be easy depending on the systems. From Nikola's end the switch is as simple as changing a variable in the config.
19:50:53 <charlesay> ok, i was just thinking about how much the initial setting matters
20:27:46 -GitHub[nikola]:#nikola- [nikola] Kwpolska created requires-io-master from master (+0 new commits): https://git.io/Sm_jqQ

21:36:47 <charlesay> one question about the text syntax i can't find answered in the rest guide: how do i direct text to be flushed left or right?
21:37:21 <charlesay> and also, does it support footnotes?
21:46:26 <[Tritium]> yes, restructured text supports footnotes (dont take this the wrong way - google restructuredtext footnote - google actually has a cheat sheet in the results!)
21:48:06 <[Tritium]> As for flushing left or right, rest doesnt actually deal with that as far as I can tell (rest is more concerned with structure than style) - you can use a container with a custom (css) class to do that if you need to
21:49:36 <[Tritium]> http://docutils.sourceforge.net/docs/user/rst/quickref.html#footnotes
23:26:21 <charlesay> System Message: ERROR/3 (<string>, line 47); backlink
23:26:29 <charlesay> Too many symbol footnote references: only 0 corresponding footnotes available."
23:26:46 <charlesay> ok, i tried to write footnotes as described here (http://docutils.sourceforge.net/docs/user/rst/quickref.html#footnotes), but none of them worked right on the test server, the latest with the previously posted error
